Anthony Coen - Principal Consultant

I am a Principal Consultant for HR, Payroll, Talent, Resourcing, based out of our London office. I specialise in recruiting mid-senior HR professionals across various sectors which I really enjoy. I cover all areas of Human Resources from advisory to senior appointments - permanent, contract and temporary positions - across the UK.

I pride myself on the relationships I build across my network; I am very transparent and straightforward in my approach, and always ensure I treat people with respect. As a testament to this, I have had several my candidate placements develop into client relationships.

I have always worked in client facing positions and enjoy working with people. I try and make the people I work with feel comfortable, and relaxed - I don’t do a hard sell and this has worked well for me over the last 16 years (or more!).

What is something people in recruitment have to deal with that you want to fix?

This issue doesn’t just apply to HR, it’s the same across a number of industries. Core HR skills are sector agnostic, so it’s frustrating when good professionals are rejected due to specific sector experience.

What do you think is the key to professional success?

For me I believe in constant communication with candidates and clients –  offering advice and guidance on the market, managing expectations, and being transparent.

What are the values that drive you?

Simple, but my life motto is to treat people the way you want to be treated.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Just, be kind.

What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?

I'd start a body building gym. And, you know, keep working here…
