Macmillan Davies: Modern Slavery Statement
Introduction
This Modern Slavery Statement is made in accordance with Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (the “Act”). It sets out the steps taken by Macmillan Davies, a UK based HR recruitment agency (the “Company”), during the financial year ending 2023, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in its business and supply chains.
Company Structure and Supply Chains
The Company is a provider of HR recruitment services. We operate in the UK and have a number of clients across various sectors. Our supply chains include: recruitment and employment agencies, job boards and online recruitment platforms, pre-employment screening providers, payroll and HR software providers.
Risk Assessment
We recognise that modern slavery and human trafficking are significant global issues and are committed to preventing their occurrence in our business and supply chains. During the financial year, we conducted a risk assessment of our business and supply chains to identify any potential areas of risk. We assessed the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and identified the following areas as potential risks:
Recruitment and employment agencies: There is a risk of exploitation of employees in our supply chain who may be vulnerable to forced labour, debt bondage, or other forms of modern slavery.
Pre-employment screening providers: There is a risk that the use of pre-employment screening providers may inadvertently contribute to modern slavery or human trafficking if those providers do not have adequate safeguards in place to prevent these practices.
Policies and Procedures
We have implemented a number of policies and procedures to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. These include:
- Supplier code of conduct: We have developed a supplier code of conduct which sets out our expectations of suppliers in relation to modern slavery and human trafficking. The code requires suppliers to comply with all relevant laws and regulations relating to modern slavery and human trafficking and to maintain accurate records of their employees and their employment practices.
- Due diligence: We carry out due diligence on all new suppliers and regularly review our existing suppliers to ensure that they comply with our supplier code of conduct. This includes reviewing their policies and procedures relating to modern slavery and human trafficking, as well as their recruitment and employment practices.
- Whistleblowing: We have a whistleblowing policy which encourages employees and suppliers to report any concerns or suspicions they may have regarding modern slavery or human trafficking. We take all reports seriously and will investigate any allegations made.
- Training: We provide training to all employees to raise awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking and to ensure that they understand their responsibilities in relation to these issues.
Future Steps
We are committed to continuously improving our approach to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. In the coming year, we will:
- Continue to review and update our supplier code of conduct to ensure that it reflects best practice and current legislation.
- Conduct further due diligence on our supply chains to identify any potential areas of risk.
- Expand our training programme to include our suppliers and clients.
- Monitor and review the effectiveness of our policies and procedures on an ongoing basis.
We are committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. We recognise that this is an ongoing process and will continue to take steps to improve our approach. This statement has been approved by the board of directors and will be reviewed and updated annually.
