Macmillan Davies launches innovative 9-day fortnight pilot program
Tue, January 30, 2024
We are thrilled to unveil our latest initiative – a two-month trial of the revolutionary 9-day fortnight for all our staff at Macmillan Davies. This pioneering scheme offers a unique working pattern, providing each employee with every second Friday off, achieved by redistributing half of the hours across nine working days. This innovative approach is designed to enhance employee’s work/life balance without compromising productivity or client service.
Leanne Boddy, a Senior Consultant based in our Manchester office, shares her perspective on the difference this scheme will make to her: “There are many reasons why I love my job at Macmillan Davies. But to me, the most important is to feel like your employer cares and not only listens but delivers on, the feedback received. That really does make a difference. As a single parent working full-time hours, a 9-day fortnight will make a huge difference to me."
The perfect middle ground
This initiative is particularly beneficial for businesses seeking a middle ground between the standard working week and the 4-day working week. It offers advantages such as increased productivity, improved mental well-being, and a strengthened employer brand. Under the scheme, employees will enjoy a free day off every other week, promoting a healthier work/life balance.
Darren Hayman, our Managing Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the impact this scheme will have on the team and wider business: " The 9-day fortnight was one of the suggestions in our latest engagement survey and to have been able to implement this in such a short space of time is a huge step forward. The 9-day fortnight concept strikes a perfect balance, providing the benefits of a 4-day week without compromising capacity, work quality, or client satisfaction."
“We've organised our teams to ensure that there's always a contactable representative on Fridays, guaranteeing seamless operations and client support. I am excited to see how the remainder of the trial plays out, and should it be a success, we will look to implement this permanently.
Moreover, this initiative not only fosters a greater sense of work/life balance but also demonstrates our commitment to retaining top talent.”
