Interim Interviews with…Victoria T

At Macmillan Davies we are really fortunate to work with a range of fantastic interim professionals. In the first in our series of ‘Interim Interviews’, Sophie Atkinson, Senior Consultant in our Interim Recruitment team, speaks to Victoria T, an experienced HR Director with an impressive background, and has carved out a career as an experienced HR interim.
Tell me about your career to date?
For the last 12 years, I've worked in a variety of senior leadership roles, focused on all aspects of the employee lifecycle. I'm very much an HR generalist, but I have particular expertise in change management, industrial relations, performance development, and ED&I.
What attracted you to a career as an Interim?
In particular, I really enjoy change management including coming up with new ideas and innovating to achieve results, which are all key to being a successful interim. I also really enjoy variety and working with a wide range of organisations and people, and the different challenges and opportunities that this presents. I am also a skilled HR practitioner with wide ranging experience and the ability to apply this to new situations.
What has been your most enjoyable/memorable part of a project thus far?
I have always enjoyed projects where I can really see the results that I (and my team) have achieved. Whether that is setting up a team from scratch, driving through a major culture change programme, or working through significant service redesign and restructuring.
What are some of the core skills you use as an HRD?
I am a very effective communicator and skilled influencer at all levels including Board level. I also enjoy working collaboratively but I can take decisive decisions when these are needed. I am a strong leader and work hard to get the best out of my teams. Finally, I am personally credible and quickly gain trust of senior leaders.
What is the best piece of career advice you have received?
That it’s really important that you do something that you are passionate about and really believe in. I strongly believe in the power of excellent people management, which gives me real authenticity in my leadership and drives me forward to achieve excellent results.
